Services and prices
Every price includes VAT. For anything bigger than a repair, Rob visits first and writes down the price, and that's the price you pay.

Boilers
Hove's hard water scales up heat exchangers, so older boilers lose pressure, bang, or run the shower cold. We service and repair most makes, and every new boiler goes in with a scale reducer and a magnetic filter. You get hot water that stays hot and a manufacturer warranty registered in your name.
from £2,450
New combi, fitted, with the old boiler taken away, system flush, filter, scale reducer and thermostat.
Annual service from £110.
-
Heating and radiators
Victorian houses often run on old gravity-fed systems that heat the top floor and leave the hall cold. We power flush, balance, or convert to a sealed system, and we strip, repipe and refit cast-iron radiators rather than skip them. Every room warms up evenly and the boiler stops working twice as hard.
from £480
Power flush with inhibitor and a full radiator balance.
-
Bathrooms
Bathrooms in converted flats mean low ceilings, shared soil stacks and a freeholder who has to approve the plans. We draw it up, help with the freeholder's paperwork, and do the plumbing and tiling with one person in charge from strip-out to silicone. You get a finished room for the price you agreed.
from £7,500
Fixed after a free visit. Strip-out, first and second fix, tiling, fitting and waste removal.
-
Leaks and repairs
In old houses a leak hides under floorboards and behind lath and plaster, and often turns up first in the flat below. We trace it to the source, open up as little as we can, and repair it in copper. The ceiling downstairs stays dry and you get a written note of the work for your insurer.
from £95
Call-out with the first hour, weekdays 8am to 6pm. Evenings and weekends from £150.

Landlord gas safety certificates
Every rented home and HMO needs a gas safety check (CP12) every twelve months. We test each gas appliance, email the certificate the same day, and remind you a month before the next one is due. Your tenants are safe and your paperwork is in order. Tenants: please ask your landlord or letting agent to book it.
from £85
Boiler plus up to two more gas appliances. Certificate emailed the same day.
A note from Rob
I started Copper & Tide in 2011, after eight years with a heating firm in Portslade. Most of my work since has been in the big terraces around Brunswick Square and the flats off Western Road and Church Road.
Those houses taught me to go slowly. Lift one floorboard, not six. Find out where a pipe goes before you cut it. Ask the freeholder before you drill the front wall, because in a conservation area they'll ask you to put it back.
Copper pipework goes green in this salt air. That's where the name and the colours come from.
I still survey every job and write every price myself. If I wouldn't put it in my own house, I won't put it in yours.

Recent jobs
How a job runs
The same four stages whether it's a radiator valve or a whole heating system. You always know the price before the work starts.
-
First, a free survey
Rob visits, usually within the week. He looks at the pipework, the flue route and anything the freeholder or the council's conservation officer will care about.
-
Then a fixed written price
Itemised, with VAT included, and good for 30 days. If we open a floor and find something nobody could have seen, we stop and talk before anything changes.
-
Then the work
Dust sheets down, boards lifted only where needed, and your water and heating back on each evening wherever we can manage it.
-
And aftercare
Warranty registered, certificates emailed, and a reminder when the next service is due.
Rob swapped our gravity system for a combi without lifting the front-room carpet. The quote was the invoice.
Water through the kitchen ceiling at 9pm on a Sunday. They were with us inside the hour and found a split joint in the flat upstairs.
I let six houses in Portslade. Copper & Tide do every gas certificate and the paperwork lands in my inbox the same afternoon.

Questions people ask
What does a call-out cost?
From £95 on weekdays between 8am and 6pm, and that includes the first hour. Evenings, weekends and bank holidays are from £150. Parts are extra, and we tell you the price before we fit them.
How quickly can you come?
For a leak or no heating, usually the same day if you call before 4pm. For a quote or a service, we normally visit within a week.
Do you work on old systems?
Most of our work is in houses built before 1900. We know gravity-fed tanks, back boilers, old iron and lead pipe, and cast-iron radiators, and we'll tell you honestly what's worth keeping.
Can you do my landlord gas safety certificate?
Yes. From £85, covering the boiler and up to two more gas appliances. We email the CP12 the same day and remind you before the next one is due. If you're a tenant, ask your landlord or letting agent to book it.
How does payment work?
For repairs and services you pay on the day, by card or bank transfer. For bigger jobs we take a [25%] deposit to order materials, and the rest when you've seen the finished work.
What does the guarantee cover?
Our workmanship, for two years. If something we fitted fails because of how we fitted it, we fix it free. Parts are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, which we register for you.
